2011 Mercedes C-Class ESL / Electronic Steering Lock Failure.
The customer called us initially for us to investigate the key not activating the ignition. After a quick investigation we quickly diagnosed it wasn’t the key and it was the ESL that had failed
We can usually get the steering lock to release in situ….Sadly not today though.
We had to fully remove the steering column from the vehicle to complete the procedure.
We removed the faulty ESL and programmed the customer a steering lock emulator which in effect acts exactly the same as a working electronic steering lock. Hey presto the vehicle is now starting perfectly 👍
We also offer a lifetime warranty on the steering lock emulator itself.
Mercedes ignitions and steering locks are a very poor design and both very prone to failure. We can re-programme & replace most ignition switches and steering locks.
